My Teaching Philosophy
I believe music is one of the most powerful tools we have for self-expression, personal growth, and human connection. We study music not only to master an instrument, but to understand ourselves and the world around us in ways that words often cannot capture. Music teaches us how to listen deeply, think critically, collaborate with others, and commit ourselves fully to a process—skills that are essential in both artistic and non-artistic careers.

As a teacher, I do what I do because I am passionate about helping students discover their unique voice through music. My role is to guide them—to foster curiosity, encourage dedication, and develop their ability to listen with intention. I want my students to leave my studio not only as stronger musicians but as more thoughtful, disciplined, and expressive individuals.

While the depth of content may shift depending on the student’s level, my core philosophy stays the same across all age groups—from elementary through professional. Younger students might focus more on play, imagination, and discovery, while older students refine technique, artistic interpretation, and personal identity through music. At every level, however, I emphasize the same values: explore with curiosity, work with purpose, and listen with care. These habits, once developed, enrich both musical and life journeys alike.

More than any other subject in the school curriculum, music education uniquely engages the cognitive, psychomotor, and affective domains of learning. While other disciplines may touch on one or two of these areas, music consistently integrates all three at a high level. At the pinnacle of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs lies self-actualization, and I see music as one of the most powerful pathways to achieving it. Music has been a defining element of every enduring civilization, and I am committed to ensuring that all students have the opportunity to experience its transformative power firsthand. Music gives students an experience that cannot be replicated in any other subject, and it is one of the best tools to help develop a well rounded individual. I believe that every person is born with the capacity and the right to be a musical being, and it is my responsibility as an educator to help students realize their full artistic potential.

In lessons, students will develop strong fundamentals in tone production, music reading, and technical proficiency, while also learning the skills needed to become well-rounded musicians and individuals.
